VEFC "You Make a Difference Award"
Each year, the VEFC “You Make a Difference” Award is given to a host family volunteer based on the service they provided to a child placed with them during the previous fiscal year. The service will reflect that the volunteer has gone “above and beyond” in helping a child placed with them to grow toward health and wholeness.
This year’s recipient is Marie Mader of Alexandria. Marie became a VEFC host family volunteer in November 2006 during which time she has hosted over seventeen children.
Marie is an extraordinary volunteer who is always willing to open her home to children in need of care. She has taken in severely physically abused and emotionally disturbed children and has shown them tremendous love and patience. She went above and beyond with one particular child placed with her last year by transporting him daily to and from the hospital to visit with his single mother who was going through a traumatic time in her life and could not care for him. Marie’s generosity helped to keep this mother and son together.
Marie was presented with this award on Tuesday, August 19th by Karen Bailey, VEFC Executive Director and Kym Ludwig, VEFC Director of Programs.
VEFC would like to thank Marie Mader for her hard work and dedication in supporting its mission of service by providing a safe and loving host home for children and youth in crisis.
