There are several ways you can be part of VEFC’s outreach to children and youth:
As a volunteer host family or mentor:
All VEFC volunteer host families and mentors receive specialized training and ongoing
support through their local VEFC program and the statewide network. All volunteers
must complete VEFC’s training, be certified by state standards and foster care guidelines,
complete a criminal and sex offender registry check, and a child protective services
check. All volunteers must have their own homeowners and automobile liability insurance.
To become a VEFC host family or mentor simply call the VEFC Statewide Office at
1-800-756-6167.
As a financial sponsor:
VEFC relies on private contributions for over ½ of its annual operating budget.
VEFC is a private-nonprofit 501(c )3 charitable organization which is also registered
with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, and endorsed by
the Greater Richmond Better Business Bureau. Your gift to VEFC enables us to maintain
and expand our successful outreach programs benefiting children and youth in crisis.
To make a contribution to VEFC please call the VEFC Statewide Office at 1-800-756-6167.
Contributions may also be mailed to: P.O. Box 35074, Richmond, VA 23235. In 1999,
VEFC will also be embarking on establishing an Endowment Fund which will ensure
funding for future VEFC programs benefiting at-risk children and youth.
As a member of a VEFC Community Council in your local area:
Each local VEFC shelter care and mentoring program also has a group of dedicated
volunteers who work with VEFC staff to maximize the effectiveness of their local
VEFC program. The Community Councils meet 8-10 times each year and assist with such
projects as volunteer recruitment, community awareness, local program fund-raising
projects, and family appreciation and recognition. To learn more about VEFC Community
Councils please phone the VEFC Statewide Office at 1-800-756-6167.
